Linda Meyer - Family Educator
I’ve worked with Peoria County Bright Futures
since its beginning….that’s almost 18 years! During that time, I’ve
had the opportunity to wear many different “hats”. I started as an
assistant in one of our classrooms in the Illini Bluffs District.
While I was working, I continued my education and graduated from
Bradley University with a degree in Early Childhood Education. Since
graduating, I worked primarily in the Family Education Program. That
has given me the opportunity to meet and work closely with parents
and young children both in our classrooms and from the communities.
One of the causes that is near and dear to me is helping families
increase the literacy in their lives and homes. I’ve worked with the
Secretary of State’s Office in a Family
Literacy Program, Coordinate a RIF program for our county
schools and work with individuals and families to help them either
by continuing their own education or just helping to bring good
children’s books into the home.
I will be providing support services to the families in the Pleasant
Valley Bright Futures/Head Start Classroom throughout the school
year. I will visit the classroom and families at group meetings and
provide or facilitate workshops for
families in the classroom. I will also be there to provide or
facilitate workshops for families in the classroom. I will also be
there to provide support services for families in need. This might
include home visits to work on individual challenges or meetings to
address the needs and issues of a group of families. I will also be
available to make connections to agencies and resources in our
community. Bright Futures believes in the philosophy of
“Strengthening Families” and part of my job will be to provide that
support.
I will work with the classroom teacher to complete assessments for
the classroom children including developmental
screenings and social emotional
assessments.
I intend to enlist the support and assistance of each family to work
as a team to provide the best for each child. I believe that parents
are their child’s first and most important teacher. Working
together, we can and will, have a successful year.
In my spare time, I serve as the Coordinator of the Bright Futures
Family Education Program. Our staff will be working, as I will,
throughout the county, providing programs and services to our
families.
I look forward to the upcoming year and the opportunity to meet and
know some wonderful new people.
